Sleep is important because it enables the body to repair, rejuvenate, relax and be fit and ready for another day. Sleep is the source of a person’s freedom from the struggles of life. Our relationship with sleep is one that we must apply effort into to maintain harmony and balance. Without proper sleep, we are prone to several problems, health issues and diseases in our lives. Sleep is the link to our energy. Getting adequate rest may also help prevent excess weight gain, heart disease and increased illness duration. Good sleep increases the immunity power of human body. 

Talking about astrology, the first House of the horoscope is Ascendant or Lagna, the fourth house, eighth house, and twelfth house tell about the sleep and the pleasure of the bed. Saturn can be considered as the prime planet for sleep. If you are a victim of Saturn’s wrath or if the planet Saturn is in a malefic position in your horoscope, then you suffer from sleeping issues. However, when Saturn is in a strong position in the horoscope, it blesses the person with a good sleeping pattern. Also, Moon, Venus and Mercury also relates with sleep. If the Moon or Venus are afflicted in your horoscope, then your sleep unnecessarily goes away. Sleep gets highlighted under the domain on Neptune, the 12th house, and Pisces. Associate tend to have a hard time sleeping when they portray a hard aspect - conjunction, square, or opposition - by the Moon, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto to the 12th house cusp, 12th house ruler, or natal Neptune. Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are water signs. These are also signs that tend to sleep more than common. The relationship between dream-life and creativity is indicated by Pluto, who represents our capacity to deepen our experiences by bringing them down into the depths or subconscious levels of our being. Scorpio may push bed time with their intelligent yet concentrated thoughts, obsessions and mind. Not-so-happy Scorpios require loads of sleep to avoid hypersomnia.  If there are planets like Saturn, Mars, Sun or Ketu in the twelfth house than there are frequent occurrences of inadequate sleep, bad dreams and frequent breaks in sleep at night. Libras go through those “balanced” swings of either sleeping too much or not enough.

There are 12 houses depicted in astrological chart, and the sun spends about two hours in each house per 24-hour cycle. Prior to midnight, the Sun spends two hours in the Fourth House, which is associated with the subconscious and deeply internal experiences such as sleep. Around midnight, the Sun begins a two-hour visit in the Third House, which rules mental activity, learning and communication. This corresponds precisely to what scientific researchers have confirmed about sleep, that people will naturally become conscious around midnight, awakening out of deep REM sleep for a few hours of thought, reflection and self-communication about their dreams. Anulom Vilom and Brahmari are the two best pranayams to cure sleeping disorders.
